Liver/Gallbladder Cleanse

The liver is our body's most important organ after the heart and a Liver Gallbladder Cleanse will help to insure the proper functioning of metabolism, detoxification, and formation of important compounds including blood clotting factors. Our liver performs many important functions. Our liver and gall bladders also filter, regulate, and store blood.

Stress, poor diet, and over-medication are common problems
in our "modern" lifestyle. These may lead to stress and
functional damage to the liver. As a result, "sluggish" liver has
become a common ailment. It can affect memory, sleep, thyroid, body
weight, and other body functions.

Both estrogen and androgen stimulate cell division. Elevated
levels of these hormones may lead to abnormal cell growth such as
womens' uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, breast
cysts, and breast cancer or mens' prostate enlargement and prostate
cancer. Since the liver is the principal organ which removes these
hormones, its failure to remove them efficiently often leads to
their accumulation in the body and is a major cause of these diseases.

"Blood moving" herbs such as Don Quei, licorice, and
ginseng are frequently used for reducing stagnation and stimulating
circulation without realizing their effect on estrogen levels.
These herbs may initially help improve circulation, but the
elevated estrogen levels can eventually make the problem worse.

Liver functions

The liver is the most important organ after the heart. It
performs hundreds of functions including:

1. Circulation: transfer of blood from portal to systemic circulation, activity of the liver's reticulo-endothelial system (kupffer cells) in the immune system. The liver stores and regulates the blood and is responsible for
nourishing every cell in our body. Every part of the body depends
on blood from the liver for nourishment and sustenance.

2. Excretion: formation and secretion of bile for digestion and cleansing of blood; removal of ammonia from blood; excretion of substances filtered from the blood by the liver such as heavy metals or dyes.

3. Metabolism: carbohydrate, protein, lipid (fat), mineral and vitamin metabolism; manufacturing and storage of many nutrients such as glucose and vitamins; production of heat through metabolism.

4. Protection and detoxification: removal of foreign bodies from the blood (phagocytosis); detoxification by conjugation, methylation, oxidation and reduction.

5. Production: formation of urea, serum albumin, glycogen and blood coagulating proteins such as prothrombin, fibrinogen and heparin; erythrocyte (red blood cells) destruction.

6. Regulation of hormones: inactivation and elimination of
hormones through the bile or urine. Since estrogen and androgen are
both growth hormones which stimulate cell division, elevation of
their levels in the blood due to the liver's failure to remove them
efficiently can cause their accumulation in tissue. This in turn
may lead to abnormal growths such as uterine fibroids, ovarian
cysts, endometriosis, breast cysts and breast cancer, prostate
enlargement or prostate cancer. Excessive estrogen is also the most
common cause of painful menstruations.

The liver also regulates body functions which affect emotional
and mental activities. In a diseased condition, the liver's blood
storage and regulatory functions are affected, and bleeding or
clots can result. When liver blood is deficient, nourishment to
tendons and blood vessels is curtailed, the joints become stiff,
and muscles become spasmodic and numb. Blood deficiency in the
liver may even lead to stroke, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus,
deafness, fainting or convulsion. When the liver blood is so
deficient that it cannot nourish the eyes, night blindness or
blurring may result. If the liver is affected by stress or unhappy
feelings, its vitality may be repressed and the sides hurt, and
hiccups or hernia may develop. The bowels may become constipated
and sleep may be disturbed causing nightmare or insomnia.

The liver is the most emotion sensitive organ and its weakness
is often connected to emotional sensitivity. Individuals who
are emotionally sensitive are more prone to weak liver even if they
do not have a poor diet or are not taking medication regularly.

The structural position of the liver as a bridge between the
returning blood from the digestive system and the lower part of the
body to the heart makes the liver an important organ for the health
of the heart. A weakened and swollen or congested liver can
obstruct the venous blood flow to the heart causing heart
palpitations or even heart attacks. In other words a healthy liver is essential for maintaining an adequate amount of blood flow to the heart and the heart can only pump the blood it receives.

According to the Chinese, the liver and kidneys are the organs
that "age" us. That is why almost all longevity herbs used in
Chinese medicine are liver and kidney tonics. Without a clean,
efficient liver and healthy kidneys, blood is not filtered clean.

"Dirty" blood, loaded with toxins or waste products, is heavier and
more sluggish. This causes poor circulation and reduced capacity to
carry oxygen and nutrients. As a result, tissue and organ cells are
undernourished. If this condition persists the cells will
deteriorate and inevitably age. The eye and brain cells are
especially affected because the blood has to flow against gravity
to reach them. In an article on Alzheimer disease in the January
1988 issue of the Mayo Clinic Health Letter, malfunction of the
liver and kidneys was mentioned as one of the causes leading to
Alzheimer disease. Brain tumour, which physically blocks blood flow
to the brain, was also cited as one of the causes.

The brain is only 2% of our body weight, yet it needs 20% of our
oxygen supply. If the toxin-loaded blood from a weak liver has
limited capacity to carry oxygen, the brain cells are affected

Constant Fatigue

When blood is loaded with toxins due to a weak and inefficient
liver, there is a limited capacity for the blood to carry oxygen and
nutrients which are necessary for energy production. The result is
constant fatigue. A clean and efficient liver which produces
cleaner blood would help energy production because clean blood can
carry more oxygen and nutrients. Clean blood is also lighter; it
flows better and results in better blood circulation.

Liver problems: liver congestion and stagnation

Liver congestion and stagnation are common liver problems. Yet
conventional medicine does not understand them and has no test to
detect them. In hepatitis or liver inflammation, liver enzyme
levels in the blood are elevated because of the ruptured liver
cells which contain high contents of liver enzymes. However, in
liver congestion or stagnation, liver cells are still intact and
liver enzyme levels in blood are normal. Therefore, normal
clinical tests which rely on liver enzyme levels as a measure of
liver condition cannot detect liver congestion or stagnation.

According to Chinese medicine, all internal organs work as a
team in the body; the liver is considered the "General" or "Chief
of Staff:". Unfortunately, many of our modern prescription drugs
are damaging to the liver or kidneys
. Over the counter drugs such
as painkillers can also cause liver toxicity. Therefore it is not
surprising that many people over the age of 50 develop liver
weakness or toxicity. Even among healthy people who are not
dependent on drugs, the liver has been filtering blood day and
night throughout life without being "cleansed". Over the years,
circulating blood has deteriorated in quality which goes unnoticed.
The end result is often a feeling of sluggishness and heaviness due
to poor circulation. Studies linking liver damage to excessive or long-term use of painkillers have been reported.

Weakening of the liver and eventual toxicity are usually a slow
process. In many cases the only sign of liver weakness is poor
digestion and low energy level. Most people pass this off as
something that happens with age. As a result they do little or
nothing about it until it is too late. Fortunately, nature has
endowed our liver with excellent regenerative powers. If we are
able to understand the early signs of degeneration, we have an
excellent chance of restoring it to optimal functioning with proper

Liver cleansing

Plant estrogens eventually aggrevate hormone imbalance problems.

The Chinese herb Bupleurum increases "energy flow" in the liver. Use a combination of Chinese Gentian and Bupleurum prepared in an alcoholic tincture.

Within a few months of using this mixture in conjunction with daily
morning exercise and diet control, you can experience significant
improvement as judged by reduction in menstrual pain from endometriosis, arthritic pain, stiffness and improved quality of sleep. This improvement should be gradual but steady.

I came across information on apple juice fasting and olive
oil/lemon juice liver and gallbladder cleansing. I decided to give
it a try. The result was dramatic. After just the first cleanse, my
pains, allergies and arthritis all disappeared. Malic acid in apple juice is excellent in dissolving the stagnant bile accumulated in the liver. I was amazed by the amount of stagnant bile driven out by the apple juice. Details of the apple juice fasting and olive oil/lemon juice cleansing procedures are given in gallbladder flushing.

Restoring liver health

Nutritional deficiency is a common problem for individuals with
liver disorders. Most nutrients pass through the body without being
assimilated if the liver is weak. I was taking many vitamins,
minerals, and herbal supplements for years without any effect. My
improvement came only after my liver was cleansed and
strengthened. It was after my experience that I realized that
supplements taken by individuals with weak livers may end up as
waste products for the body to dispose because the supplements
cannot be digested or assimilated.

You can restore your liver to health in less than a year by cleansing it with Chinese Bitters, by liver and gallbladder flush and by eliminating all liver and kidney weakening foods such as white flour, white sugar, caffeine, chocolate, deep fried foods, all citrus fruits, tomato, banana, cold drinks and foods which chill the liver and kidneys. Take supplements or foods rich in Vitamin B's, C and minerals to nourish your organs and use the various Chinese herbs to increase "Chi" (energy flow) in the liver.
Do daily morning exercises which involve stretching and
deep breathing.

Exercise stimulates blood circulation. When blood circulates
better, all organs function better. Stretching and deep breathing
kind of exercises early in the morning provide the most benefit for
anyone with sluggish liver. According to Chinese medicine, the
liver works hard to filter our blood between 1 to 3 am, during our
sleep. A fair amount of blood may still be retained in the liver
when we wake up in the morning if the liver is congested. Early
morning exercises help to bring the blood out of the liver into the
circulating system. One of the symptoms for the excess blood
retained in the liver is waking up in the morning with stiffness or
numbness in the fingers or dizziness due to lack of blood

Avoid foods or herbs that have estrogenic activities such as Don Quei, Licorice, Ginseng, Royal Jelly, fennel, anise, flaxseed oil, clover, red
clover, evening primrose oil, etc. Avoid taking all pharmaceutical drugs because most of them are weakening or damaging to the liver or kidneys.

Stress congests the liver and constricts the blood vessels. It
causes poor blood flow and the whole body becomes sluggish.
Anger (especially suppressed anger) injures the liver, grief injures the
lungs, fear or fright injures the kidneys and worry injures the
spleen. As mentioned earlier, all these organs support each other
and work together. Disharmonies in one of these organs tend to
produce an imbalance in the corresponding emotions and vice

According to Chinese medicine, cold and raw vegetables such as
salads tend to weaken the spleen unless the individuals who consume
them are robust and strong ("Yang" type person). This could
be the reason why many vegetarians look pale because of their weak
spleen although Vitamin B12 deficiency may also be responsible.
Also, most vegetarians eat a lot of salad, even though cooked
vegetables are better to eat. One of the common signs of weak
spleen is dry lips or frequent thirst. Chronic diarrhea or loose
bowel may be another sign of weak spleen. Since the spleen is an
important organ for red cell production, weak spleen is a common
cause of anemia, especially in cases that do not respond to iron

I've heard of a lady who suffered from heart palpitations since her early teenage years. She fainted, the first time in her life in school, at the age of eleven. It was due to a hereditary weak heart according to the
doctor who saw her. He warned that she might faint easily
throughout her life. He was right in that prediction, until the
health of her liver was restored in 1989. She never fainted again and
her heart palpitations disappeared.

The Chinese have a saying: "The liver opens into the eyes. When the liver is harmonized, the eyes can distinguish the five colors". Clean and nutrient-rich blood from a healthy, efficient liver can flow easily and nourish the eye tissues better. Stimulation of blood flow to the eyes by massaging also helps.

99.95% of people diagnosed with cancer have intrahepatic (within the Liver) stones. A liver detox is often the first vital step for the body to begin to heal itself.

The liver cleansing recipe is the same as gall bladder cleansing recipe. Cleansing of both organs is achieved by the same procedure. All people who have stones inside their gallbladder, always have stones inside their liver - proved by their cleansing experience. All people who have stones inside their liver, do not necessarily have stones inside their gallbladder - proved by ultrasound examination and a liver flush.

The liver/gall bladder cleanse is necessary even if one has had their gall bladder removed. Also, anyone who has already had their gallbladder removed should be taking a product called Cholacol which replaces the bile salts that your gallbladder would normally be producing. This is needed for the rest of your life so that your body can properly digest fats.

Liver - Gallbladder Congestion:

The most important factors involved in dealing with all diseases of the human organism are liver and gall bladder congestion. In fact medical doctors have found that in all serious diseases, particularly cancer, the liver was in extremely poor condition.

Liver congestion is caused by toxic overload, it is unable to detoxify the bloodstream effectively. When the liver is congested, the toxins circulate in the bloodstream and can enter into the brain, nervous system or other organs. When the liver tries to expel the poisons forced on it, the burden goes to the kidneys which then causes additional congestion. Constipation prevents the liver from eliminating toxins. The liver can also become congested by an excess of fat, sugar, alcohol, white flour products, and chemicals found in the water, food, and air.

Pre-Disposing Factors:
1. Excess us of alcohol, refined carbohydrates, caffeine, hydrogenated fats and oil.
2. Food poisoning
3. Environmental toxins
4. Chronic constipation
5. Over use of prescription drugs

The bile, which is stored in the gallbladder in a more concentrated form, is of extreme importance in all areas of the body. The gallbladder actually draws the bile into itself from the liver duct. Many back problems in fact are the direct result of inadequate bile flow. The synovial fluid around all joints will decrease if bile flow is low, sometimes causing terrible pain. Many people will take cortisone injections for relief believing it, mistakenly, to be arthritis or some other inflammatory disease. The cure of course comes with liver cleansing.

Another area of the body that can suffer from lack of bile are the sinuses. This soothing lubricant ( bile ) keeps mucus membranes moist, otherwise they become dry and inflamed. Most allergy conditions can be traced to liver congestion. Avoiding foods that create a reaction bring relief, but will not cure the allergy. Allergies and sinus conditions will often disappear after the liver has been cleansed.

Also, the body begins to suffer the effects of poor assimilation of fat-soluble nutrients, which may play a role in the development of eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, falling hair, tendonitis, night blindness, accumulations of calcium in tissues, and sometimes prostate enlargement in men. Hemorrhoids due to blockage of the portal vein draining the liver are often the result of this congestion.

The importance of cleansing the debris from the liver and the gall bladder, thus keeping the bile free flowing, cannot be overemphasized. This can be accomplished by doing the Liver/Gall Bladder Cleanse, which is necessary even if one has had their gall bladder removed. There are four basic ingredients in this procedure.

Here Are The Ingredients You'll Need If You Do It Yourself:

A. Apple juice (high in malic acid), which acts as a solvent in the bile to weaken adhesions between solid globules. The apple juice should be coarse, unfiltered and free of additives and preservatives.

B. 4 tablespoon Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate), allows magnesium to be absorbed into the bloodstream, relaxing smooth muscles. Large solid particle which otherwise might create spasms are able to pass through a relaxed bile duct.

C. 1/2 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which stimulates the gall bladder and bile duct to contract powerfully, thus expelling solid particles kept in storage for years.

D. 1 big grapefruit ( 2 small ) or use 3 lemons, the acid juice speeds the transit of the olive oil thru the stomach and into the duodenum, which helps prevent or minimize nausea.

The Liver - Gallbladder Flush:

The Liver-Gall Bladder Flush is one of the most important procedures for the persons over 15 years of age. If one is above 15 years of age and his or her physician gives approval, he or she should do this the first week of their Alternative Cancer Treatment Program. The steps in doing this are not difficult and are as follows:

1. For 5 days prior to the "Flush" consume as much apple juice or cider as the appetite permits, in addition to regular meals. Nutritional supplements should also be taken during this time. For the last two days ( day 4 and 5 ) try to take 8 ounces of apple juice every two hours until 1/2 gallon each day has been taken.

2. On the sixth day... Eat a no-fat breakfast and lunch such as cooked cereal with fruit, fruit juice, bread, and preserves or honey ( no butter or milk ), baked potato or other vegetables with sea salt only. This allows the bile to build up and develop pressure in the liver. Higher pressure pushes out more stones.

Note: Take no medicines, vitamins, or pills that you can do without; they could prevent success.

2:00 PM
Get your Epsom salts ready. Mix 4 tbsp. in 3 cups water and pour this into a jar. Do not eat or drink after 2 o'clock. If you break this rule you could feel quite ill later.

You can substitute 3 cups water with 3 cups freshly pressed grapefruit juice, or freshly pressed apple juice. This makes four servings, 3/4 cup each. Set the jar in the refrigerator to get cold (this is for convenience and taste only).

6:00 PM
Drink one serving (3/4 cup) of the cold Epsom salts. If you did not prepare this ahead of time, do it right now. You may also add 1/8 tbsp. vitamin C powdered to improve the taste. You may also drink a few mouthfuls of water afterwards or rinse your mouth. Get the olive oil and grapefruit out of the refrigerator to warm up.

8:00 PM
Repeat by drinking another 3/4 cup of Epsom salts. You haven't eaten since two o'clock, but you won't feel hungry. Get your bedtime chores done. The timing is critical for success; don't be more than 10 minutes early or late.

9:45 PM
Pour 1/2 cup (measured) olive oil into a pint jar. Squeeze the grapefruit by hand into the measuring cup. Remove pulp with fork. You should have at least 1/2 cup, but up to 3/4 cup is best. Add this to the olive oil. Close the jar tightly with the lid and shake hard until watery (only fresh grapefruit does this).

If using lemon juice, do not blend juice with oil. Drink little oil, little juice, from 2 differnt cups. If you mix olive oil with lemon juice, it may sligtly congell, and get a slimy consitence that is not easy to swallow. It never happens with grapefruit juice.

10:00 PM
Drink the potion you have mixed. Drinking through a large plastic straw helps it go down easier. Take it to your bedside if you want, but drink it standing up. Get it down within 5 minutes (fifteen minutes for very elderly or weak persons).

Lie down immediately !!! You might fail to get stones out if you don't. The sooner you lie down the more stones you will get out. Be ready for bed ahead of time. Don't clean up the kitchen. As soon as the drink is down walk to your bed and lie on the right side with the right knee drawn up toward the chin for at least 20 minutes (you can briefly stretch your right leg, if necessary) or lie down flat on your back with your head up high on the pillow for 20 minutes before going to sleep. This encourages the oil to drain from the stomach, helping contents of the gall bladder and/or liver to move into the small intestine. Try to think about what is happening in the liver. Try to keep perfectly still for at least 20 minutes. You may feel a train of stones traveling along the bile ducts like marbles. There is no pain because the bile duct valves are open (thanks to the Epsom salts!). Go to sleep. You may fail to get stones out if you don't.

Next Morning
Upon waking, take your third 3/4 cup dose of Epsom salts. If you have indigestion or nausea, wait until it is gone before drinking the Epsom salts. You may go back to bed. Don't take this potion before 6:00 AM.

2 Hours Later
Take your fourth (last) dose of Epsom salts. Drink 3/4 cup of the mixture. You may go back to bed.

After 2 More Hours You May Eat
Start with fresh fruit juice. Half an hour later eat fruit. One hour later you may eat regular food, but keep it light. By supper you should feel recovered.

How did you do?

Expect diarrhea in the morning. Use a flashlight to look for gallstones in the toilet with the bowel movement. Look for the green kind since this is proof that they are genuine gallstones, not food residue. Only bile from the liver is pea green. The bowel movement sinks, but gallstones float because of the cholesterol inside. The first cleanse may rid you of them for a few days, but as the stones from the rear travel forward, they give you the same symptoms again. You may repeat cleanses at two week intervals.

Note: If one should vomit during the consumption of the oil and juice, the procedure should be continued until it is finished. It is not necessary to make up for the amount that was vomited. Nausea felt during this process usually indicates stimulation of the gall bladder and/or liver.

Helpful Hints:

1. Taking one hydrochloric acid tablet at bedtime will reduce any nausea during the night.

2. If you have a tendency to get nauseated from oil, take 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera juice after your doses of oil and citrus juice or drink some pineapple juice.

3. Placing a hot water bottle over the liver area (under the right ribcage) during the night also helps relieve nausea.

Note: Don't be frightened by the references of nausea, vomiting, soreness of abdomen, etc.

Chances are, the symptoms won't be severe enough to cause vomiting or soreness of the abdomen, as this happens only very rarely. Many people complete this procedure with minimal discomfort, and nearly everyone feels better after completing it.

Often times, persons suffering for years from gallstones, lack of appetite, backaches, nausea, and a host of other complaints will find gallstones-type objects in the stool the day following the flush.

These objects are light to dark green in color, very irregular in shape, gelatinous in texture, and of sizes varying from "grape seed size" to "cherry size". When a large volume of gall stones is seen, the liver flush should be repeated in 2 weeks.

Generally, the liver flush is repeated at 2 - 4 week intervals until the volume of gall stones seen (each time) has been greatly reduced. This can require 10 - 15 flushes, or more, because your liver will be "pulling" cholesterol out of your body, where it may have accumulated for many years or decades. After the initial series, repeat the liver flush 2 times per year, for "maintenance."

FASTING... After The Liver-Gall Bladder Flush a fast may be started. The fast should last one or two days. We are now giving the body a rest and an opportunity to cleanse itself of much waste on the individual cell level. Each day of the fast one quart of fresh carrot juice and one pint of celery juice should be taken, along with all the filtered or distilled water desired. It is best to dilute the fresh juice with equal parts filtered or distilled water... It is important to remember that unless sufficient fluids are taken the poisons become concentrated and are not eliminated in the natural way.

Cancer can be viewed as a TOXIC CONDITION... It therefore stands to reason that any attempts at detoxifying the body will benefit anyone who is either trying to prevent the disease or getting cured from it. Detoxification is regarded as an essential element for successfully treating cancer by alternative cancer treatment specialists.

You may feel more comfortable consulting your physician before doing the flush. There is a possibility of complications from the flush if the stones are too large and unable to pass through the bile ducts. That could cause excruciating pain. Gallstones are made of cholesterol primarily, but also calcium. If the stones are too large and calcified, there is a chance for complications. If you know you have stones, find out the size and type from your doctor. If you know your stones are of the calcium variety or if they are very large, do NOT attempt the Liver/Gallbladder flush!
